The Avril family is one of the oldest in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and have
ancestors who were the First Consuls and Treasurers of the town from 1756 to
1790. Along with Baron Le Roy de Boiseaumarie and other wine-growers, they
were the originators of the rules which were to serve as a basis for the
Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée.
They make a lovely Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red with a beautiful garnet-red
colour, flesh and body, power and density, mellow tannins, a nose dominated
by aromas of prunes and vanilla and good length in the mouth. An excellent
Châteauneuf White with a bouquet dominated by white flowers and lime-tree, a
long, fleshy wine with lots of charm.
