A consultation of archive documents unearthed the existence of this estate
under the name of "l'Hereteyre", meaning "Heritage" in the XVIth century.
This was a particular type of lease granted by the lords of an estate, in
this case the Pez family. In the XVIIth century the estate belonged to the
Abbaye de Vertheuil (judgement of the Parliament of Bordeaux in 1702), and
in 1931 the estate took the name of Château Tour de Pez, named after a tower
built in the XIIIth century. Château Tour de Pez is now one of the leading
Saint-Estèphes, thanks to the quality policy in place and the rigorous
selection procedure for the 1st wine. With a beautiful deep red colour, the
wine of Château Tour de Pez is perfectly balanced, with intense aromas of
blackcurrant, cherry, spices and fresh grapes. Power and volume characterise
this wine. It is rich, elegant and refined, with charming complexity and
mature, lasting, racy tanins which give a hint of its future splendour. The
29 hectares of vines benefit from two complementary soils : Gironde gravel,
giving the tannins all their finesse, and clay-limestone soil, providing
more powerful tannins. Thanks to the very strict grape selection, the wine
of Château Tour de Pez has a strong identity - it is to be found in the best
starred restaurants and is a favourite among knowledgeable tasters.
