In 1848, Jacques Bussier founded the estate of Mazeris-Bellevue by reuniting
the different parts of the former Mazeris estate, reputed since time
immemorial for its delicate wines. It became a model estate on which all
the progress made in vine-growing and wine-making techniques were applied
and, in 1889, it won the Grand Gold Medal of the Ministry of Agriculture
in a competition between the best-run estates in the area of Libourne. The
present owner, Jacques Bussier (the 4th generation to have the same
forename) manages the 11 hectares of vines with passion. He carries on the
family tradition whilst adopting modern vine-growing techniques (weed
destruction by burning, providing natural fertiliser by planting grass
between the rows).
Harvesting is done by hand and the vinification process is carried out in
the ancient, traditional way in sealed cement vats. The vatting is long (4
weeks). The wines are then matured in underground, cement vats and in old
oak barrels. The wine of Château Mazeris-Bellevue is colourful, fleshy and
lively. The wine can be aged over very long periods. All the wine produced
is bottled at the Château.
If you visit the estate, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramic
views of the delightful banks of the Dordogne and then taste an old
vintage wine.
Taste the remarkable wine, which has a ruby colour, is perfectly matured and
well balanced with firm tannins and a nose with dominant notes of ripe
fruit and underwood. Good for laying down.
