BORDEAUX SUPERIEUR

CHATEAU DE LUGAGNAC

CHATEAU DE LUGAGNACChâteau de Lugagnac was built during the Hundred Years War and the traces of the former fortress can still be seen today in the foundations of the wall that surrounds it. Today, it is a splendid house which has been renovated with taste and skill by Maurice and Mylène Bon. Located on the watershed between the Dordogne and the Garonne and enjoying a temperate climate which is particularly dry in Summer, the 80 hectares of vines are planted high up on sloping terrain, two-thirds on iron-containing clay soils on a limestone subsoil and one-third on limestone with fossilised sea-shells. This varied terroir gives the wines of Lugagnac, made using the traditional methods, a lot of personality. An excellent estate producing top-quality Bordeaux Reds which have regularly won medals.
Since 1994, François Bon, their son, has been working with them, making a Château Lugagnac White - a rarity in that only some 12 000 bottles are made - with strong Sauvignon character and lots of fruit. It is already enjoying a certain success. Château de Lugagnac is a very pure, coloured "free-run wine" - full-bodied, well-balanced and round in the mouth with aromas of fresh red fruit, intense and tasty with good ageing potential. The wines of Château de Lugagnac are harmonious, consistent wines. They are guaranteed "free-run wines" without addition of "press wine" and are bottled after two Winters of maturing. The wine is presented in antique-colour heavy bottles. It is most refined and excellent for laying down. The Bordeaux Rosé is remarkable.
