On the remainders of tombelle Gallo-Roman, Charlemagne was the first builder of the Château de la Rivière into 769. This defensive fortress with the steps of its empire was positioned in a strategic point for the observation of possible invaders. Then at the 16th century, Gaston de l' Isle “Mayor of Bordeaux” builds the majestic residence which one can still admire nowadays. Year after year, it was admirably maintained in the state by its many owners. At the 19th century, one of them, originating in the family of the Massé de Corneilles, called upon an architect of fame, Viollet-le-Duc, to restore it and supplement it. After the family of Jean Balluteaud (1927), Jacques Borie (1962) and Jean Leprince (1994), it is today the family of James Grégoire (purchase in 2003) which deals with the destiny of the Château de la Rivière. We also lay out of 8 hectares splendid monolithic cellars “old limestone quarries” which we make visit throughout the year (on return) and in which we let age our wines out of barrels and bottles. Years 2000 enabled us to produce great wines. The 2000,2003,2005 and the last 2008 are very great wines, concentrated and powerful, with potentials of exceptional guards. Vintages 2001,2002,2004,2006 and 2007 are easier of accesses, elegant and delicate wines, with drinking in the 10 years. The property is certified Terra Vitis since 2002 and is qualified Agriculture Reasoned since 2004. The whole of the development process (of the vine, with the wine storehouse and until conditioning) is carried out in a preoccupation with a safeguarding of the quality of our environment and our soil.
